# Stop a live stream

End a running live stream on every platform, or cancel a scheduled one.

- **Running** (`starting`, `live`, `ending`): the stream stops within about 5 seconds. YouTube broadcasts are completed, Facebook live videos are ended, and Twitch goes offline. The final status is `ended`.
- **Scheduled**: the stream is canceled (`status: "canceled"`) and never starts.

The response is the stream ([same shape as Get](/docs/api/get-live)). A running stream may still show `live` right after the call; poll until it is `ended`.

## Errors

| Status | Code | When |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 404 | `not_found` | No live stream with this ID in the project. |
| 409 | `not_running` | The stream has already ended, failed or been canceled. |
